Akumal Update

According to the locogringo.com forums, all is on the mend in Akumal, my new favorite vacation spot in the world.

Akumal on CNN

This was posted by Gary in the Akumal forums on locogringo.com

We are not out of the woods yet. It seems we may get or near miss the south edge of the eyewall. Wilma is over Cozumel now and as you know the south end lighthouse is directly across from Akumal. CNN has been communicating with us and I have shot some video with my camera, hope to shoot more if weather permits. Apparently we may be on Wolf Blitzer situation room this 4-5pm live by phone, not sure yet.

We are hoping for the best at this moment for our good friends in Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Cancun… all point north and south for that matter.

I’m keeping everyone down there in my prayers!

UPDATE: Gary of locogringo.com is now on CNN according to the forum posts.

Hurricane Wilma and Akumal

Just over a month ago, my girlfriend and I spent a week on the eastern coastline of the Yucatan peninsula. We stayed in the resort town of Akumal about an hour south of Cancun. We absolutely fell in love with the area.

This morning, I have been following reports about Hurricane Wilma as it moves ashore in Mexico.

Most of my information about Akumal itself is coming directly from the Locogringo.com forums. The site is run by Gary and Kay who live in Akumal. They and others have been posting photos from there this morning.

Be (Kind of) Afraid

Reports like this always worry me a little bit.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has found tiny yellow dots on pages printed from the many commercially available color printers. In at least one case, the EFF has shown that these dots contain a decipherable pattern of information which details the printer’s serial number and the date of when the document was printed.

Read here for more news on this topic.

Oh, and if you print this website out on a color laser printer, be aware that they really are watching. Well, sort of. They could. If they wanted to. And had the time. And interest. Maybe they could work you in sometime around lunch.

One Thing You Didn’t Really Need To Know

I have found lately that I am much more gaseous than I would normally expect.

Inordinately gaseous.

Cool!

Cool! A video iPod! I want one.

On Saturday night, some friends had their baby outfitted in this. Pretty dang cute! Makes a great Halloween costume too!

UPDATE: Awww… here’s the baby herself in the outfit!
